Bartica receives sectional water delivery because demand exceeds capacity in an expanding community

Dear Editor,

Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), the nation’s supplier of water and sanitation services, wishes to address the concerns indicated in the letter by Winston B Miller Sr, published in the Wednesday November 7, 2012 edition of your newspaper regarding the service provided to Bartica (‘GPL will not be able to cope with the Christmas load in Bartica’).

The author stated that GWI has not provided service to Bartica.  This statement is erroneous.  The company wishes to state that the Bartica community receives sectional delivery; customers receive water from 4am to 8am and from 17:00 hours to 21:00 hours.

Customers have been advised to store water during these hours of delivery.  Sectional delivery is necessary since the demand for the service in Bartica has exceeded the capacity of GWI’s water production facilities. The company cannot provide a 24-hour service because of the vastly expanding community.

To improve on the service we currently provide, GWI’s Capital Investment and Planning Department has initiated plans to build an additional storage facility in order to provide extended hours of service. These plans are dependent on available funding which GWI is in the process of exploring.  The company has provided every necessary resource available to improve on the service provided to the customers of Bartica; the additional storage facility is a priority and customers will be updated on the progress of this initiative.

GWI continues to focus on upgrading our facilities in Bartica and improving the level of service provided to the community.

For updates, Bartica customers can contact GWI’s Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701; email customercallcentre@gwi.gy or post via GWI’s Facebook fan-page at www.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy.

Yours faithfully,
Timothy Austin
