No water yet in Herstelling Scheme

Dear Editor,

I bought one of the two-bedroom houses through the Ministry of Housing in the new Herstelling Scheme. Since May/June this year, I have been paying the mortgage through NBS.

When you pay down the $500,000 for the land, and the mortgage is approved, water and lights are included in the package.  Why there is no water in the scheme as yet, I don’t know. Guyana Water Inc said in August they were carrying out testing. In September, they were still testing. Housing said we would get the water in September, and the same thing this October month end again.  People are waiting on the water to move in; some persons moved some furniture in, locked up and went away again.  It is expensive to buy water; even to mix cement costs $5000 for a tank of water.

Editor, please use your good offices to find out when they will turn on the water in this scheme.  I don’t know if the Minister is aware that the scheme has no water as yet. No water – no street lights.

Yours faithfully,
M Adams

‘Let us plan for a future in which T20 will be the real cricket’

Dear Editor, Twelve years ago when I was in Sydney, Australia,  I was told by Sam Loxton, a member of Don Bradman’s Invincibles of 1948, that only Test cricket is ‘real cricket’, and that the limited versions of the game are really ‘limited’; mere slogging – light entertainment.

Government works for the Guyanese people not ExxonMobil

Dear Editor, It is essential that the current administration keep in mind that they work for the Guyanese people and not ExxonMobil.
