WPA later qualified their position

Dear Editor,

In my article ‘The PPP and the challenges ahead,’ which was recently published in SN, I regretfully made an omission which I should like to correct. I said, without more, that the WPA’s proposals for a Government for National Unity and Reconstruction of 1977, I believe, did not have a place for the PNC. In fact the WPA later qualified that position by proposing that if the PNC committed to free and fair elections, there would be a place for it in such a government. By inadvertently omitting this later qualification, an incomplete picture was drawn of the WPA’s final position and perspective on the issue.

Yours faithfully,
Ralph Ramkarran
