Where is the participatory democracy in FITUG?

Dear Editor,

A FITUG statement about prosperity for all in 2013 which appeared in the Guyana Chronicle on Tuesday, December 25, mentioned only three trade unions who are affiliated to FITUG.

FITUG took the initiative to reflect on some challenges faced during year 2012, but CCWU did not get the opportunely to do so under FITUG umbrella. The President of FITUG proudly talks about participatory democracy in FITUG, but where is participatory democracy? Some leaders just wasted the workers’ time.

The CCWU believes that GAWU is very professional in the way they work with sister unions. CCWU represented twenty-two private companies and signed numerous Collective Labour Agreements. One company we must highlight is the National Communica-tions Network Inc; we also had an increase in our union membership. Our union still has this challenge with Mr Badal at Guyana Pegasus Limited. We support the government’s move to build a Marriott Hotel in Guyana.

Yours faithfully,
Sherwood Clarke
Vice President
