Jolita Butkeviciene, Director of the European Commission’s Directorate for Development and Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean was impressed with the progress of the EU-funded Mangroves Restoration Project. According to a press release from the EU Delegation to Guyana, Butkeviciene was briefed on the activities of the project by Chairperson Annette Arjoon-Martins, following a tour of sea defences during a visit to the Mangrove Visitor’s Centre at Cove and John, on the East Coast of Demerara. Butkeviciene told the project staffers that she and the team of senior EU officials had done a fly over of the sea defences and saw the trees along the coastline. “This is an incredible tree and I think you are all doing a marvellous job in its restoration along the coast as well as the awareness since I passed several of the mangrove billboards on the way to the mangrove centre. Congratulations!” she was quoted as saying during interactions with the staff.
