Alpha, Camptown to contest Banks knockout soccer final

Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United hammered in two late goals against Sunburst Camptown in the final minutes of extra time to secure their spot in the final of the Banks Knockout Football Tournament at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground Friday evening.

They will meet Fruta Conquerors in the final tonight at the said venue.

Dwain Jacobs (left) and Leon Grumble were the two main scorers for Alpha United.

In front of a ram-packed GFC crowd, Alphan  United, the defending Kashif and Shanghai Champions, who have not been not invited to the 22nd edition of the tournament, battled tediously to a 0-0 draw in their semi-final encounter against Camptown at the end of regulation time.

In the first half Alpha United, who had lots of ball possession, showed good ball control  with their only downfall during the half being the shots they squandered in front of the goal.

The second half saw the Camptown players picking up the pace of their play as they counter attacked ferociously.

Alpha squandered an easy opportunity in the 52nd minute when a pass from the left wing went across an open goal resulting in a shot going way over the cross bar.

The first half of extra time saw play being scrappy as both teams searched for a goal with play being cofined  mainly to the midfield.

In the 110th minute Leon Grumble struck for Alpha as he scored from a loose ball in the 18 yard box after finding the `keeper out of his position.

Five minutes later in the 115th minute just before the final whistle Alpha secured their position into the final as Dwain Jacobs scored sending the pack ground into a frenzy.

After Jacobs scored he ran into the crowd taking his shirt off which resulted in him being given a yellow card.

After being shown the yellow card Jacob then gestured a not interested attitude as he flung his hand at the referee with no intention to hit him which resulted in Jacobs being tagged with a second yellow then the red card which will see him miss the final game tonight.

Meanwhile, Fruta Conquerors defeated Beacons 2-1,  dominating the game with ball possession.
Arco Marcus scored for Conquerors in the 41st minute while his teammate Gerald Grittens solidified their position in the final with a 78th minute goal.

Beacons replied with a consolation goal in the 89th minute off the boot of Christopher Galloway.
