Unbeaten century from Naeem Yacoob pilots Young Star to win

A brilliant, undefeated century from Naeem Yacoob was the backbone of No.70 Young Star’s easy victory over No.69’s Red Rose as the round of 16 list was completed yesterday for the 2011 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice.

At No.69, Young Star won the match that was reduced to 35 overs a side by 83 runs. Featuring in a 42-run partnership for the first wicket with his brother, Rayon Yacoob (17), 83 for the second wicket with Mark Lionel (33), 52 for the fifth wicket with Chatterpaul Lionel (23) and thenin an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 63 with Chris Bollers (27 not out), Naeem Yacoob was the glue that kept his team’s inning together.

They ended on 252-5 in 35 overs as Yacoob stroked 10 fours and hoisted five sixes in his knock. Bowling for Red Rose, Nehru Gopaul took 2-4.

When Red Rose responded, Trishan Narinedat 58 (5×4, 1×6) and Tariq Chaitram (35) put on 81 for the fourth wicket but they could not maintain the momentum and their team folded for 169-6 in their 35 overs. Young Star’s Thameshwar Ramoutar and Omesh Khemraj were the pick of the bowlers with 2-15 and 2-22 respectively.

In another match from Zone N at the No.68 ground, No.70 Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) defeated No.68 Turn Team by 63 runs. MYO made 153 all out in 29 overs with Ahmad Khan scoring 40. Turn Team could only muster 90 in 27 overs in reply with Shabir Khan snaring 6-10.
