Bishoo, Permaul lead Guyana to huge victory – 3rd day, 1st round

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – Spin duo Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul bowled Guyana to a 234-run victory over Leeward Islands in the Regional 4-Day Tournament yesterday.

Bishoo grabbed four wickets for 31 runs from 9.4 overs and Permaul snatched four for 36 from 12 overs, as Leewards were dismissed for 102 in their second innings in the first hour after tea on the second day of their first round match at Windsor Park.

Orlando Peters and Tonito Willett both scored 21 to lead the way for the Leewards, after they bowled out the Guyanese on the stroke of lunch for 226 in their second innings.

Assad Fudadin hit the top score of 52 for the Guyanese, but it was a late hand of 48 from Permaul that broke the backs of the Leewards, after they stumbled to 147 for eight.

Nelson Bolan was the most successful bowler for Leewards with four for 43 off 10.4 overs.

Leewards then suffered an early setback, when Kieran Powell was adjudged lbw to Brandon Bess for five.

Fudadin, bowling his medium-pace, added the scalp of Shane Jeffers caught behind for 19, leaving Leewards 35 for two.

After this, Bishoo, the West Indies leg-spinner, and Permaul, the Guyana spinner, took control, sinking Leewards to 82 for four at tea.

After tea, the Leewards crashed to 94 for eight in the first hour following the break before  Bishoo brought the match to a close, when he had Anthony Martin caught close to the wicket for a duck.

Earlier, Guyana resumed from their overnight total of 86 for six and Fudadin rallied the lower-order.

He added 39 for the eighth wicket with Derwin Christian and 49 for the ninth wicket with Permaul, who added 30 for the last wicket with Bess.

Guyana – who collected 12 points – face Windward Islands at the same venue, starting on Friday, when Leewards meet Combined Campuses & Colleges at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.
