Alpha United hammers Banks All Stars

Alpha “the Hammer” United hammered Banks DIH All Stars while Riddim Squad made light work of Houston Stars on day three of the NAMILCO Football Festival organized by Fruta Conquerors Football Club Saturday evening at Tucville ground.

Alpha survived an early scare before beating the local beverage giants 6-1, while Riddim Squad proved too strong for Houston Stars winning 4-0.

The Alpha/Banks clash was an exhibition game but the beverage company players struck early when Randy Stoby netted in the 6th minute of play.

However, the Banks All Stars proved to be an unfit bunch and instead of passing the ball around several players were keen of keeping the ball in their possession and eventually their play lost momentum.

Alpha equalized in the 15th minute when Manasseh Primo found the back of the netted sparking an avalanche of goals with Quason McAulay scoring  goal number two  in the 22nd minute before Leon Grumble and Kevin McKenzie scored in the 28th and 40th minute respectively giving their team a 4-1 lead at half time.

The national club champions netted two more goals in the second half through Shevon Seaforth in the 55th and Fran Crandon who sealed the deal in the 75th.

Riddim Squad also went on a rampage against Houston Stars thanks to a double strike by Julian Forris.

Sheldon Hope opened the scoring for winners  two minutes into the match before Steffin Ramsay scored in the 35th to give their team a 2-0 lead at the half.

Forris opened his account on the resumption of play scoring his first goal in the 47th minute and returned to score his second in the 58th minute.

Riddim Squad and Alpha have now joined Sunburst Camptown, Beacons, Santos and Guyana Defence Force.

The other two quarter final places were to have been determined last night when continued at Tucville ground with Georgetown Football Club taking on Flamingo while Fruta Conquerors were to meet Charlestown United.

The tournament now in its fifth year is sponsored by National Milling Company (NAMILCO).
