Dolphins sweating on Gayle’s fitness

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa,  CMC– Chris Gayle was expected to undergo a fitness assessment here yesterday to determine if he will take his place in the Dolphins side for the domestic Twenty20 Challenge.  The big-hitting left-hander picked up a groin injury playing for Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League, putting his South African campaign in jeopardy.  After Gayle arrived here on Sunday night, KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union chief executive Jesse Chellan said a

determination would be made shortly on the player’s availability.  “Once the medical examination is available to us, we will be able to make an assessment of when Chris is available to play for us”, said KZNCU chief executive Jesse Chellan.

Due to arrive last week, the injury delayed Gayle’s arrival causing him to also miss the Dolphin’s opening three-win triumph over the Impi.  If Gayle is unable to suit up, it would be a huge blow to the Dolphins who also lost their other overseas player, Australian Shaun Tait to injury recently.

The Dolphins will clash with the Knights in their second match of the tournament in Bloemfontein tomorrow.
