Guyanese Jacobs slams 77 but side still loses

Queen’s Park Cricket Club opener Runako Morton slammed an aggressive 126 to lead his team into the final of the Premier Division Sunday League 50-over competition following their easy nine-wicket win over T&TEC Sports in the semi-final of the tournament at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal.Morton struck off a wonderful 77 made by Guyanese Steven Jacobs for T&TEC. The Parkites, who are the defending champions, dismissed T&TEC for 193 and knocked off the runs in 32.2 overs.

The Parkites booked their place with ease as youngsters Jeremy Solozano and Brent Cameron stepped up with solid performances to back up Morton’s aggressive ton.

Cameron took three for 45 to help dismiss T&TEC in 47.3 overs while Solozano, playing his first match for the Queen’s Park senior team, offered good support to Morton with an undefeated 62. Morton slammed 12 fours and seven sixes in his 106-ball knock and all the T&TEC bowlers felt the opener’s wrath. When T&TEC batter earlier in the day, T&TEC slipped to three wickets for just nine runs. Jacobs, who scored 77 off 123 balls, then stabilised the T&TEC innings in the middle overs, putting on 44 with Deepak Kumar and taking the score to 53 in the 23 overs before Cameron got his third wicket.

The former Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 pacer bowled Kumar for 14 bringing Richard Kelly to the crease. Kelly and Jacobs added 82 for the fifth wicket with Jacobs clobbering six fours and two sixes to accelerate T&TEC’s scoring rate towards the end of the innings. Premier Division Sunday League scores
