PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago have been set 305 on the final day today to win their fifth round Regional Four-Day clash against Jamaica.
On yesterday’s penultimate day at Queen’s Park Oval, 15 wickets tumbled as T&T, resuming their first innings on 89 for five were bowled out 143.
Jamaica, with a lead of 147 runs, then folded for a paltry 157 in their second innings at the close as T&T’s spinners wreaked havoc. Off-spinner Aneil Kanhai grabbed four for 17 while leg-spinner Imran Khan collected four for 34. Donovan Pagon top-scored with 51 and left-hander Brendan Nash got 30, adding a precious 65 for the third wicket.
Once Nash fell lbw to Khan, offering no shot, Jamaica’s innings went into terminal decline as they lost their last eight wickets for 69 runs. Carlton Baugh, who made 140 in the first innings, was unavailable to bat after being called up to the West Indies team to replace the injured Denesh Ramdin.
His place in the squad was taken by Horace Miller who failed to score.
Jamaica were in trouble early when Danza Hyatt was trapped lbw to seamer and captain Reyad Emrit, sending the visitors to one for one, just after lunch.
After the break, they lost opener Brenton Parchment bowled by Shannon Gabriel, essaying an expansive drive at one that nipped back slightly.
Pagon and Nash seemed to be hauling Jamaica back into the fray when Khan accounted for both and thereafter, only David Bernard with 27, showed any enterprise.
T&T had suffered an early setback at the start of the day when Kevon Cooper, unbeaten on 17 overnight, top-edged a sweep at left-arm spinner Nikita Miller after he had added just two runs, with the score on 94 for six.
Kanhai battled to add eight to his overnight 20 before he too departed, caught by Horace Miller at slip off medium pacer Bernard.
