Lawn tennis girls’ team ends tourney on winning note

The Guyana team participating in the North/Central America and the Caribbean Pre-Qualifying Junior Fed Cup ended on a high note after winning their final match against Trinidad and Tobago when the competition ended Saturday in the Dominican Republic.

Saving their best for last, Aretta Dey and Nicola Ramdyhan rallied for a 2 – 1 win against the Trinidadians  as Guyana ended in 13th place out of the 17 countries that took participated.

The win follows their 2 – 0 win against Panama earlier in the competition.
According to a press release from the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA), Dey trounced Juliet Campbell 4 – 0, 4 – 0 in a match that lasted 45 minutes while Ramdhyan went down 1 – 4, 3 – 5 to Dajohnique Delancy, leaving the doubles match up to determine the winning team.

The Guyanese girls displayed some of their best tennis to emerge 4 – 6, 7 – 5, 10 – 8 winners of the doubles tie.

In the boys Junior Fed Cup tournament, the Guyana boys’ team of Daniel Lopes, Khalif Gobin, and Gavin Lewis, who was ill during the latter part of the tournament, lost all the matches, the release stated.

The Guyana team which included coaches Jeremy Miller and Shelly Ramdyhan returned to Guyana Sunday evening after the week long tournament.
