Golden Jaguars to play Reggae Boyz in Int’l Friendly

The Guyana and Jamaica national football teams known as the Golden Jaguars and Reggae Boyz respectively will lock horns in a major international friendly on May 18 at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

According to a report in the Jamaica Observer newspaper, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Horace Burrell said he expects the Jaguars to provide a stern test in a game the Jamaicans view as a critical part of their technical programme, leading to the World Cup qualifiers.

Jamaica and Guyana who are ranked 47th and 97th in the FIFA World rankings respectively have progressed to the third round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers which commences on June 8. Guyana will face off with CONCACAF powerhouse Mexico at the Estadio Azteca, while Jamaica will host Guatemala in Kingston. The match was originally scheduled to be played this month but both the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the JFF rescheduled it for next month so that both teams could have all their foreign players available, since the various UK leagues would have been concluded by then, the Observer reported.
