First division cricket returns to Malteenoes ground

The Malteenoes Sports Club ground will see a return of first division cricket in almost two years when the home team clash with Transports Sports Club in a match of the Georgetown Cricket Association Heroes Cup competition.
The Thomas Lands ground has not hosted any cricket since Abilash Dookie scored a century in a T20 game for Everest there almost two years ago.

Founded in 1902 by Barbadian Ferdinand Christopher Archer as a cheaper alternative route for persons to participate in recreational activities, the club has for years played a meaningful role in the development of cricketers who have gone on to represent Guyana and the West Indies with distinction, and in the days where first division cricket was quite popular, played host to many rivalries. Regrettably, upon commencement of repairs to the ground, circumstances led to it being out of proper order for quite some time. Fittingly the home team, fresh off a victory against a strong DCC side, will play against Transport Sports Club while the Georgetown Cricket Club plays Gandhi Youth Organization at home in the other Heroes Cup game set for this weekend.

Meanwhile, Bakewell-sponsored Inter-Jamaat 15 overs competition continues this weekend at the Muslim Youth Organisation Ground, Woolford Avenue.

At 9am today, MYO will oppose Belle West , while Wales tackles Grove at 11pm and Mon Repos take on Windsor Forest from 1pm.

Tomorrow, from 9am, Grove will oppose Farm `B’, Providence will clash with LBI `A’ and Queenstown will play Mocha.
