NSC celebrates World Challenge Day today

—Minister Frank Anthony to deliver motivational speech

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, will today give a motivational talk in observance of World Challenge Day which is being celebrated today.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission, “Guyana is committed to participating in this important international event.”

The release added that in an effort to achieve its objective, “the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/ National Sports Commission has organized a major activity focusing on sport activities/physical displays involving Martial Arts, Boxing, Physical Displays by the Guyana Police Force and a Parachute Jumping display by the Guyana Defense Force.”

Those activities will take place at the National Stadium at Providence and will commence at 9.30am.

Schools along the East Coast of Demerara and other invitees will participate in a Physical Warm – Up exercise for approximately 20 minutes.

Social Service of Commerce in Brazil – in partnership with the Trim & Fitness International Sport for All Association – TAFISA, based in Germany, are the promoters of the Challenge Day, a sport for all movement which benefits the health of the participants.

“Challenge Day has the objective of introducing a new attitude towards active living by stimulating citizens to break their daily routine and practice any kind of physical activity for at least 15 minutes,” stated the release.

“The International Challenge Day is a friendly competition in sport for all where communities compete against each other to motivate as many people as possible within the communities to get physically active,” the release added.

The event is a expected to be a fun one that creates awareness and enthusiasm for fitness and active living in participating communities.

International Challenge Day activities are for communities of small populations as well as the largest cities of the world.

The major objectives of  International Challenge Day is that it brings communities together; enhances community spirit; creates awareness of the benefits of physical activity; is social, safe and fun and is inclusive which means that basically people of any age, gender, fitness and ability level can participate.

Last year, World Challenge Day was celebrated on Easter Monday.
