CARICOM ‘Wheat-Up’ Cycle Road Race on Monday

Cash prizes, trophies and champion jerseys will be up for grabs when the National Milling Company (NAMILCO) in collaboration with Roraima Bikers Club pedals off the 9th edition of the CARICOM ‘Wheat-Up’ Cycle Road Race on Monday (CARICOM Day).

The event which will commence at 8:00hrs in front of NAMILCO’s compound at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, is scheduled to attract the crème de la crème of local cyclists in the senior, junior, veterans, females and mountain bike categories.

During a media briefing which was held yesterday in NAMILCO’s boardroom, President of Roraima Bikers Club, Brian Allen stated that the junior and senior riders will proceed to Long Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and return to finish at the Two Brothers gas station at the junction of Eccles and Flour Mill Road (approximately 65 miles).

Allen said that the females, veterans, and mountain bike riders will turn back at the Soesdyke Public Road/Linden Highway Junction and return to finish at the Two Brothers Gas Station (approximately 36 miles).

The first six finishers in the senior category will receive cash prizes and trophies, while the first three finishers in the females, veterans, and mountain bike categories will each cart off cash prizes and trophies.

Moreover, the first place finisher in each category will take home a champion jersey.

Immediately after the race the presentation ceremony will be conducted. Last year’s winners were Alonzo Greaves (senior), Neil Reece (junior), Talim Shaw  (veteran), Hazina Barrett (female) and Jude Bentley (mountain bike).
