De Sinco Trading aided the 2012 National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) champions Kwakwani with a supply of Degree deodorant on Saturday at the National Gymnasium before the team departed Sunday to participate in a development tournament in Antigua.
Kwakwani, who has established themselves as true champions in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) organized school festival by winning three straight titles gained an invite from the Ministry in Antigua to be part of the tournament because of their known basketball prowess, according to coach of the team, Ann Gordon.
Human Resources Director of De Sinco Trading, Alicia DeAbreu presented their contribution to the coach and some team members and wished them well in their endeavors.
“This is just a small token to you and your team for your success in the YBG tournament and we hope that you do well in your upcoming tournament,” DeAbreu stated.
Gordon thanked all her sponsors, including De Sinco Trading, Digicel, National Sports Commission, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the YBG for helping to make the event possible.
However, Gordon believes that Kwakwani will do well in the tournament due to their hype and readiness, especially since winning the 2012 NSBF.
“They are at their peak right in this level of basketball and they are ready not only physically but mentally.
“From the inception when they learnt that they were going overseas they wanted to win the NSBF so they can generate the spunk they needed for the tournament and to generate funds to go,” Gordon related to Stabroek Sport.
Meanwhile Chris Bowman, one of the organizers for the YBG programme and head coach of Marian Academy, who was present and played in this year’s NSBF final against Kwakwani also weighed in on Kwakwani’s chances.
“Kwakwani is the best we have at the school level and they have been that way for the longest while. Kwakwani is the school that has set the standard for competiveness on the court and they have set the standard for the rest of the schools in Guyana and they are really the best we have at the school level and that goes without saying. “The players from Kwakwani are very skilled, they’re very athletic, they’re very hungry, they’re determined and all those are things that make for a good high school basketball team. We don’t know the level of basketball in Antigua but we know Kwakwani will give a good account of themselves and will represent Guyana well,” Bowman stated.
Meanwhile Kwakwani will tip off their first game tomorrow as they prepare to cause some noise in the tournament.
