Guyana in the driver’s seat against Windwards

Guyana’s Under-15 cricket team was 80-5 in their second innings against the Windward Islands at the close of play of their opening two day match of the West Indies Cricket Board’s regional Under-15 cricket competition in Conaree, St Kitts.

Guyana recovered from being 17-2 after 10 overs in their first innings to post a respectable 172-9 in their first innings.

Brian Joseph grabbed both early wickets to fall before Sherfane Rutherford (29) and Keemo Paul began the recovery. Paul had the distinction of scoring the tournament’s first half century before falling for a well played 76.

Joseph ended with 3-33 while Joshua Mann had 3-32.

When the Windwards batted Ewert Samuels quickly put the skids under the batsmen with three early wickets as the Windwards slumped to 39-4.

They never recovered and were dismissed for 68 to trail by 104 runs.

Samuels ended with 4-14 while Paul Persaud chipped in with 3-11. Anil Matthew made 21.

Guyana in their second innings reached 80-5 at stumps for an over all lead of 184. Rutherford was again among the runs top scoring with 41 while Joseph has so far picked up two wickets.
