Ramdhanis to spearhead badminton team to Pan Am juniors

The Ramdhani siblings Narayan and Priyanna will spearhead Guyana’s junior team to the XXI Pan American Junior Badminton Championships which will be held in Alberta, Canada July 24 – 29, a release from the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) yesterday stated.

Caribbean U-15 champion Narayan and his sister Priyanna the Caribbean U-11 and U-13 champion and Pan Am bronze medallist will lead the seven member team’s quest for medals at the tournament where some 15 countries are expected to participate. The countries billed to take part are Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, United States, Venezuela and host country Canada.

The championships will be held at Edmonton’s Sherwood Park facility.  Guyana’s Team:- Narayan Ramdhani (National Under-15, 17 & 19 Champion and Caribbean Under-15 Champion), Priyanna Ramdhani (National Under-11, 13 & 15 Champion, Caribbean Under-11 & 13 Champion, Pan Am bronze medalist 2010 & 2011 and winner of the National Junior Sportswoman award 2011), Under-19 Player Avinash Odit and  Under-15 Players Ambika Ramraj,

The Guyana team which will take part at the upcoming junior Pan Am badminton championships in Canada from today.

Meanwhile the release from the GBA said the team’s participation was made possible with assistance from Republic Bank Limited, Prittipaul Singh, North American Resources, EZ JET and M&M Snackette adding that it wished to thank the sponsors for their support.

President of the Guyana Badminton Association Gokarn Ramdhani told Stabroek Sport last night that the players will only be contesting the individual events. The Guyana team is due to depart for Canada today.
