Canada’s Inverhaugh Cricket Club starts tour here tomorrow

The Inverhaugh Cricket Club is on its first tour to Guyana and is set to play four matches against select teams in Demerara and Berbice starting tomorrow.
The privately-owned Club was formed by Bart Singh and Associates in 1995 and is based in Inverhaugh, Ontario, Canada. All games are played on turf wickets within the grounds owned by Jan and Bart Singh and, during the Canadian summers it plays friendly matches, a press release said. During the winter tours are undertaken regularly to islands such as Grenada, St Maarten, St Lucia, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Dominica.

The tour party comprises Singh (captain), Roy Singh, John Metcalf, Vince Correia, Nigel Cockwell, Fazal Karim, Ron Reece, Kumar Dindial, Jai Yudishtu, Balkaran Maharaj, Keron Jagdeo, Premo Jagdeo, Saheed Mohammed and Jaysheel Bhavsar. Bart Singh and Karim hail from Herstelling and most members of the group originally hail from Trinidad, Canada, England, India and Scotland. The tour party also includes wives and supporters numbering 30.

The tour opens with the first match at 11am against an Everest masters team on Saturday in a 30-overs affair. The Everest team will be selected from the following persons: Rajesh Singh, Rohan Sarjoo, Sheik Mohamed, Rakesh Gangaram, Ronald Jaisingh, Johnny Azeez, David Harper, Paul Parsram, Dennis Mangru, Rabindranauth Seeram, Basil Persaud, Sudesh Persaud, Darshanan Lall, Saeed Khan, Hemraj Garbarran, Andrew Budhan and Danpaul Ram.

The second match will be held on Sunday at Albion against a select Berbice masters team with their third match-up against a strong West Demerara line-up at the Wales Community Centre Ground on Tuesday.

The final match will feature an East Bank masters team against the Inverhaugh line-up at the Everest Ground next Thursday. The team will be drawn from a group comprising Deonarine Debidial, Kenneth Debidial, Rohan Sarjoo, Johnny Azeez, Raymond Jaisingh, Ronald Jaisingh, Daniel Sarjoo, Rakesh Gangaram, Victor Henry, Jai Sankar and Ramotar Bissoon.

The team will then be feted at a farewell cocktail reception at the Grand Coastal Inn on Thursday evening hosted by Raj Singh Insurance Brokers. It then departs Guyana on August 3.
