By Neil Barry

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated Bel Air Texaco by 118 runs as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) David Persaud Investments Cup under-19 competition continued yesterday at the GCC ground, Bourda.

GCC won the toss and batted first, compiling 190 all out in 46.3 overs. Martin Pestano Belle top scored with 43 inclusive of three boundaries, while all rounder Devon Lord contributed a patient 33 and seam bowler Shamar Graham, 27.

For Bel Air Texaco, A. Joseph took 3 for 31 from 11 overs, A. Rampersaud 3 for 32 and R. Lynch 2 for 30.

In Bel Air Texaco’s turn at the crease, GCC struck regularly and fielded well to restrict them to just 72 all out in 28.1 overs with only one batsman reaching double figures. Lord bowled a controlled spell of left arm spin to finish with figures of 8-2-15-3. Bevon Bailey took for 2 for 8 and Almando Doman 2 for 11. In Woolford Avenue, Queen’s College bounced back from a massive loss in their first game to snatch a narrow win from Transport Sports Club `B’ side. TSC `B’ batted first and managed only 91 in 26.3 overs on the small ground with extras (32) almost doubling the highest score by a Transport batsman. Vickram Ramkissoon did the damage for QC with a haul of 4 for 3 runs from five overs while Jayadev Mana took 2 for 9 and Vivekash Persaud 2 for 12.

Queen’s College reached their target after a few alarms finishing on 93 for 7 in 23.1 overs. Opener Amil Alli saw his team home with an even 50 not out to make sure the efforts of Avinash Motilall, 3 for 28 and Shamar Profitt, 3 for 13, were in vain.

The competition continues today with the following three matches in Zone `A’ Demerara CC “B” vs. Everest CC at the DCC ground; Gandhi YO vs. Transport SC “A” at the GYO ground and Saint Stanislaus College vs. Ace Warriors at the GCC ground. Malteenoes SC drew the bye.
