Hamilton’s five wicket haul highlights penultimate round

Malteenoes Sports Club scored a seven wicket win over St. Stanislaus College as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) David Persaud Investments Cup one-day competition resumed yesterday.

St. Stanislaus batted first at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, Thomas Lands and scored 70 all out with Kareem Naughton taking 3 for 19 off five overs while Shaquille Williams supported with two wickets. In response Malteenoes lost just three wickets with Denzel Alleyne scoring 20.

Ace warriors were completely dominated by Demerara Cricket Club `B’ in Queenstown. Batting first, Ace Warriors scored 23 for 6 innings closed as they fielded just seven players with none of the batsmen reaching double figures. R. Balgobin snapped up 4 for 15 from four overs as DCC `B’ romped to victory by nine wickets, in the first and only over of their chase. Kemol Savory hit three sixes and a four in an aggressive 22 not out.

At the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, the hosts went down to Everest Cricket Club by four wickets in a low-scoring encounter.

Batting first Everest scored 119 all out with Sherfayne Rutherford making 48 and Steve Ramdass 28. Mark Hamilton took 5 for 27 from nine overs and Wazir Harun 3 for 7. In response, GYO fell for 115 with Everest gifting 34 extras. No GYO batsman reached 20. Bowling for Everest, Christopher Surat took 4 for 35.

The final round in the league phase will be played today with Transport Sports Club `A’ playing St. Stanislaus College at Everest, DCC  `B’ playing GYO at GCC and Malteenoes Sports Club battling Ace warriors at home in zone `A’ while in Zone `B,’ DCC `A’ will take on Third Class at GNIC.

Meanwhile, the delayed Brainstreet Under 15 semi finals will finally get underway  tomorrow from at 9 30am with Demerara Cricket Club `A’ doing battle with Queen’s College at Queenstown and Gandhi Youth Organization taking on Transport Sports Club at their home ground in Woolford Avenue. The final will be held on Friday.
