Grant Stuart top Guyanese cyclist at Bigi Bergi cycling meet in Suriname

Last year’s National Road Race Senior Champion, Walter Grant-Stuart’s fourth place overall finish at this year’s annual Bigi Bergi four-stage Road Race in Suriname, was the highest of the four local riders that featured in the top-10.

Grant-Stuart, representing the Miami-based Team Coco’s, overall time was eight hours, 15 minutes and 13 seconds.

The event which pedaled off last Friday and concluded on Sunday was won by Surinamese Moses Rickets (overall time seven hours,42 minutes 11 seconds)with local riders Orville Hinds, Alonzo Greaves and junior star rider Raynauth Jeffrey occupying top 10 positions.

Representing the Linden Bauxite Flyers Club, Hinds, the reigning senior Road Race Champion placed fifth while Greaves, who spearheaded the Roraima Bikers team, placed seventh overall.
Jeffrey, who is the current junior national Road Race champion, also rode for Team Coco’s. He occupied the 10th position.

Eric Vincent (second place from French Guiana), Mike Sebico (third place from French Guiana), Jean Michael (sixth place from French Guiana), Shane Meerberg (eight from Suriname) and Steven Seibou (ninth from French Guiana) rounded out the top-10

On Friday in the first stage, riders from French Guiana (defending champions for the last two years), Curacao, Holland, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Suriname, USA, and other countries took the road in a 95km race. On Saturday there was 105km race while on Sunday there was a 10km Time Trial and 90km race.The top–five overall finishers received cash prizes.
