GBL to stage lucrative first event later this month

The newly-formed Guyana Baseball League (GBL) will hold its first event on September 29 at their Turkeyen Ballpark.

According to a press release the event, which is labeled `Swinging for the stars’ will be held mainly to introduce the game to Guyanese through a fun and action filled format that is expected to be understood easily.

The goal of the event, however is to allow everyone that enters the competition an opportunity to swing for the fences and win the major cash prizes and trophies which will be up for grabs.

Robin Singh, left explains the concept behind his inaugural event Swinging for the Stars which commences later this month.

The male open division will see the first place finisher walking away with 1.5 million dollars while the same amount will be allotted to the female version.

The under-18 category will see both male and female winners walking away with $300,000.

In the under-16 category, the male and female winners will receive $250,000 while in the under-13 category $200,000 will go to the male and female winners of the event.

There will also be under-10 and seven categories where the male and female winning teams will receive $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.

President of the GBL, Robin Singh, said that he believes that fans are as important as the players. “Baseball fans are as important as baseball players,” he stated.

The Guyana Baseball League is looking to sign on players to their little league teams next year.

There will also be scouting at the hitting fest in an effort to have players sign on to little league teams for the 2013 year.
