Everest into semis

Everest Cricket Club joined Police Sports Club, Demerara Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club as the teams to participate in the semi-finals of the Georgetown Cricket Association New Building Society  limited overs competition.

Everest won after a mistake by the Third Class captain forced his team to forfeit the match before it was completed. Over at Malteenoes, the home side finished on a high note by disposing of the University of Guyana.

Malteenoes batted first on the home track and compiled 218 all out as Shaquille Williams scored a brisk half century while the busy Vishal Narayan motored to a half century of his own. Opener Nichosie Barker got the innings going with a run-a-ball 23, before Kwame Crosse contributed 20, while Williams struck three fours in an innings which used 69 deliveries. Narayan’s half century was also scored at a run-a-ball. Bowling for UG Royston Alkins collected 2 for 30 and Damian Vantull 2 for 44.

UG’s innings never quite got going as four of their batsmen failed to score.

Brief resistance came from number 10 batsman Suresh Danhai, who was one of just two batsmen to reach double figures in the innings with  20. Leg spinner Steven Sankar was as effective as he was miserly in taking 4 for 5 from 2.3 overs. The all rounder Kwame Crosse picked up 4 for 38 from five overs as he made the early breakthroughs for MSC, who restricted UG to 79 all out in 18.3. overs, granting them victory by 140 runs.

In the match between Everest and Third Class, Third Class took first strike and reached 4 for 124 in 33 overs before the match reached an impromtu conclusion. Randy Ramroop had already made 43 with three fours, Clint Jones 29 with four boundaries and Alvin Castello 20. Bowling for Everest, Kevin Paul had 2 for 14, and Javed Rasheed 2 for 9 before the game was called shortly after 1 p.m. Third Class conceded defeat after being alerted to the fact that one of their batsmen’s name was not on the team list submitted before the match. The result brought a disappointing end to a promising campaign by the Third Class side.
