Cadogan stops local, overseas challenge in MACORP golf win

Overseas players have begun arriving here as the local golf season climaxes but the local players continue to hold their own as was evident Saturday when Ansa McAl Marketing Executive Troy Cadogan emerged winner of the MACORP Invitational  Golf Tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club.

Forty four players started the tournament including United States-based golfers Mo Saffie, Salim Rasheed and Andrew Claxton. However,  Cadogan turned back the strong challenge to win with a net 66 from a gross 94 and a 28 handicap.

He edged out David Harry who shot a net 68 from a gross 85 and a 17 handicap.

MACORP Managing director Jorge Medina (fourth left) and Jerome Khan, LGC President pose with the top players at last weekend’s golf tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club.

Former Guyana Open champion Alfred Mentore produced another scintillating  performance to finish third ending with a net 69. He also had the best gross of 76.

Reigning Guyana Open ladies’ champion Christine Suhkram shot 71 to cop the best prize for the women players while Sookram Deosarran was Nearest to the Pin. Rasheed copped the prize for the longest drive.

Although MACORP Managing Director Jorge Medina, an ardent golfer was not among the winners, he was elated to have sponsored another successful tournament.

Medina said that MACORP, the local distributors of CAT heavy duty equipment, will continue to be supportive of golf in Guyana.

He noted that the company has been providing support  in ensuring that  the Course was  in perfect condition.

Lusignan Golf Club President, Jerome Khan, thanked MACORP for sponsoring another successful event and urged them to sponsor an even bigger tournament next year.

The golfers will now focus their attention to this weekend’s two-day tournament sponsored by local telephone company Digicel.

The Guyana Open sponsored by local beverage giants Banks DIH will take place on November 3-4.
