B/ce Busta champion-of-champions cricket tourney bowls off today

The ninth annual Rose Hall Town and Sports Club (RHT&SC), Busta, Champion-of-Champions cricket tournament for the top cricket clubs in Berbice will bowl off today at four venues in the Ancient County.

The tournament, hosted by the RHT&SC and sponsored by the Guyana Beverage Company under its Busta brand, features the best cricketers.

Secretary of the RHT&SC, Hilbert Foster, said that all arrangements are in place for a highly successful tournament which should be completed in less than a month.

Foster added that all teams have been informed that players’ discipline on and off the field must be of the highest standard and that the decision of the umpires must be respected.

At the Blairmont Community Development Centre Ground, the home team spearheaded by Waqar Hassan, Deveshwari Prashad, Altaf Khan and Kevon Jawahir opposes a very strong Bermine team boasting players like Eugene LaFleur, Anthony D’Andrade, Romario Shepherd, Stephen Latcha and Jomal LaFleur.

Young Warriors, with Gajanand Singh, Richard Ramdeen, Balram Samaroo and Shimron Hetmyer to the fore, hosts West Berbice at the Cumberland Ground. West Berbice will be spearheaded by Keon Joseph, Krisendat Ramoo, Sherwin McPherson and Brandon Bess.

The Albion Community Centre Ground will host the Albion and Skeldon match with Albion being the heavy favourite.

The Albion line up consists of  players like Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai and Kandasammy Surujnarine while underdogs Skeldon will depend heavily on Gary Phillips, Junior Blair, Parmanand Narine and Clavern Beresford.

The final game of the first round involves hosts Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets and Port Mourant at the Area ‘H’ Ground. RHTGG team includes Royston Crandon, Delbert Hicks, Clinton Pestano, Rajiv Ivan, Shawn Perreira, Eon Hooper and Dominic Rikhi while the once powerful PMCC will have the services of former West Indies under-19 all-rounder Zamal Khan, Devendra Thurkadeen, Yogindra Harrinarine and Tony McKenzie.
