Carto guides Dolphin Secondary to South Georgetown Zone Two win

National junior sprinter Tiffany Carto yesterday helped guide Dolphin Secondary School to victory in the South Georgetown Zone Two Inter Schools track and field championships at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.

Carto made easy work of the girls’ Under-20 category winning the 100, 200 and 400m races. She was also a part of Dolphin’s 4x100m and 4x400m Open relay victories.

Charlestown’s Brittany London stole the show in the girls U-16 category winning the 200 and 800m events as well as being a member of the victorious 4x100m and 4x400m Open relay teams.

While Charlestown’s Dequan Cumberbatch won the boys’ U-16 100m.

Charlestown’s Alwayne Primo scored a convincing win in the boys’ U-18 100m before returning to rule the 200m where he finished ahead of Dolphin’s Shemar Wilson and South Secondary’s Raymond Torres who finished third.

Dolphin’s Orlando Alfred won the boys’ U-20 200m while Trevor Nelson and Youmika Nelson won the boys and girls’ 800m respectively. Anthony Junior won the boys’ U-16 3000m as well as the boys’ Open 5000m.

In the girls’ U-14 category, Charlestown’s Latifah Mangal won the 400m race and placed second in the 1500m.

Dolphin Secondary edged Charlestown Secondary for the top position after the two schools battled to and fro throughout the day.

However, at the end of the championships, Dolphin Secondary ran out winners with 878 points to Charlestown’s 862 while Lodge Secondary placed third with 588 points.

South Ruimveldt Secondary followed with 506 points while Caramel Secondary secured 267 points and Freeburg Secondary 71 points.

Yesterday’s points will be added to the points from the field events, where Dolphin also ruled the roost ending with 317 points.

Charlestown followed with 272, South Ruimveldt, 231 points and Lodge Secondary 224. Freeburg Secondary again scored 71 points while Caramel finished in the cellar position this time with 54 points.

Competition in the South Georgetown District will continue today with the swimming segment which commences this morning from 9:30am at the Colgrain Swimming Pool.

Tomorrow will be the Champion-of-Champions Inter Zone track meet. Competitions will close with cycling next Monday at the National Park Circuit.
