Shondell Alfred pregnant, Mexico fight off

WIBA Bantamweight title holder, Shondell ‘Mystery Lady’ Alfred will not be fighting in Mexico today after tests conducted there found her to be pregnant. This led doctors to bar her from entering the ring.

President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Peter Abdool via telephone told Stabroek Sport that Alfred and her team are very disappointed that she will not be fighting.

Her Coach Seabert Blake told Abdool that Shondell stood a very good chance of defeating Mexico’s Zulina Muños. The two were scheduled to fight for the vacant WBA Super Flyweight title.

Asked whether a medical examination was conducted on Alfred prior to her leaving, Abdool said it would not have been accepted by the Mexican authorities. He added that it is customary that examinations be conducted by medical officials in the host country.

Alfred, together with Blake and Junior Murray left Guyana for Mexico with the hope of returning with the WBA Super Flyweight title.
The mother of one, according to Abdool, will return home tomorrow.
