Fistic fury expected at open amateur championship

Welterweight, Lightweight and Middleweight are the divisions that keen attention should be paid to when the National Open Amateur Championship gets underway tonight at the Banks DIH Parking Lot.

That disclosure was made by Steve Ninvalle, President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA). According to Ninvalle some of the country’s top amateur fighters will be fighting in these divisions.

In the welterweight division Ron Smith, Laured Stewart and Eon Bancroft will fight. Smith defeated both Stewart and Bancroft. But Steward was lucky enough to have a rematch with Smith whom he defeated thus evening out the score.

In the Lightweight division Stephan Gouveia and Claymont Gibson who are excellent fighters but never faced each other will appear. While in the Middleweight there is Dennis Thomas, an exceptional fighter.]

Bancroft, Gouveia and Thomas are expected to deliver wins as they have all won fights on the Pro Am Card which was recently promoted by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control. The three came up against their counterparts from Trinidad.
