NSC launches U-16 football academy today

The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport will launch an Under-16 football academy today at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue from 08:00hrs.

According to a press release, the purpose of the academy is to prepare young players for future selection to the national U-17, U-20, Inter Guiana Games and senior teams. The proagramme will be held in Georgetown on Saturdays and Tuesdays from 08:00hrs-10:00hrs and 16:00hrs-18:00hrs respectively at the said venue.

The programme, which will be conducted by the National Sports Commission (NSC) coach, Gordon Braithwaite, will also extend to various areas of the country such as Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, Hosororo, Mahdia, Rupununi, Essequibo Islands, Berbice, Linden, East and West Coast, East and West Bank Demerara. The programmes in each of these areas will last two to three weeks, the release noted.

The following 26 players are asked to report to the training venue this morning for the commencement of the football academy:-

Emmanuel Simon, Chester Joseph, Shamar Wilson, Romel Legall, Romello Fraser, Andre Downer, Randy Layne, Kareem Knights, Kevin Andrews, Fernando Oliviera, Jerry Da Silva, Quincy Lawrence, Ronaldo Dover, Keith Cairns, Wayne Murray, Job Ceasar, Jermaine Scott, Seth Williams, Alpha McPhoy, Jermaine Fletcher, Jarel Thom, Nyron Joseph, Keon Solomon, Wayne Halley, Isaiah Reddy and Trevon Tucker.
