Donna Ramsammy James has successful showing in Solivita, London

Donna Ramsammy James’s designs have had recent successful showings in Solivita, Florida and London, England.
According to a press release, the Caribbean American Association of Solivita (Caramvita) held its annual tea party last month and the highlight was ‘Caribbean Footprints’, the fashion segment featuring the creations of internationally renowned Guyanese designer Donna Ramsammy James.

The creations were displayed by members of Caramvita and some of Donna’s models who travelled to Solivita for what was the first showing by the designer in Central Florida. Donna has previously held shows in Davie and Miramar.

Meanwhile, it was mentioned that Caribbean Footprints was a celebration of the Caribbean Diaspora to their adopted countries and communities and this was brought into sharp focus by Donna’s creations. In addition to being Guyanese and raised with the Caribbean culture, Donna lived and worked in East Africa for some 12 years and her designs reflect, “the softness of Asia, the depth of Africa and the colour of the Caribbean”.

Donna described the concept as “a synthesis of tradition, inspiration and creativity; a display of a unique line of art displayed through fashion, choreography, music and mime”. According to the release, the common thread running through her collections—13 to date—is the Shape 2000 tradition of ethnic fusion, art through fashion, traditional cultural styles, dress, motifs and notions.
After Solivita, Donna presented her designs in London in mid June.
