The Indian Cultural Centre will screen the film Road Movie today from 5.30 pm at its Lot 67 New Haven, Bel Air, Georgetown location.
In the 2010 film, Vishnu (played by Abhay Deol) wants to get away from his father’s business. He offers to take an old Chevy truck across the desert to its final resting place. The truck turns out to be full of old films and two projectors from its days as a touring cinema. Along the way,
Vishnu reluctantly picks up a young runaway (Mohammed Faizal Usmani), a wandering old entertainer (Satish Kaushik) and a striking gypsy woman (Tannishtha Chatterjee). Their journey is difficult as they search for water, deal with corrupt police and local officials and try to make some money from the films. They learn from their experiences and from each other as they survive the journey. The journey ends up becoming a journey of self discovery. Abhay Deol said about the film “ … it’s not a run-of-the-mill Bollywood film. It is a dry, feel-good comedy; poetic and subtle in its humour, beautifully shot and surreal…”
The film was screened at several international film festivals even though it was not a box office hit in India. It has been described as visually stunning with beautiful desert scenery – which can be appreciated on a larger screen.
