Dhanram lifts UG to first innings points

Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) member Omesh Dhanram led his adopted side the University Of Guyana (UG) to first innings honours when the sides met on Saturday in the Noble House Seafood’s second division two-day competition at the DCC ground, Queenstown.
After DCC won the toss and chose to bat, Dhanram took quick wickets to limit DCC to 156 all out in 38.4 overs.

Captain Linden Smith was their leading batsman with 44, an innings which included five fours and three sixes while Kemol Savory made 37 and Leron Primo 30.

Leg-spinner Dhanram finished with figures of 4-32 in six overs and he was supported by Dwayne Dodson, who took 2-26. In reply, Dexter George took two wickets in two balls bowling Dwayne Dodson and having Clevon Hyman lbw while Cavell Reece has Frederick Pestano as UG lost three early wickets. But Dhanran batted his team out of trouble grounding out the top score of 80 to put UG slightly ahead after the first day’s play.

Dhanram, along with Royston Alkins another former DCC player who made 30, helped take their adopted team to 165/9 declared to give UG  a nine-run lead.

In the other two matches, Police Sports Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) are poised to take first innings points as well.
At GYO, the GCC batted first and compiled 297/8 declared in 60 overs against the home team.

Martin Pestano-Belle scored 52 with seven fours, Trevon France made 51 with nine fours and Elon Fernandes fell just short of a half century, scoring 49 which included four fours and two sixes.

Navin Bal took 2-54 for GYO who were 52-6 in 14 overs in reply.
Joseph Shivgobin has so far recorded their highest score of 21. Medium pacer Cleon Critchlow was the wrecker in chief for GCC with 4-27 so far.
At the Muslim Youth Organization ground (MYO) Police scored 219 in 48.1 overs.

Randolph Knights made the top score of 53 with seven fours and a solitary six.

Trevor Benn was supportive with 33 while Shameer Fazal made 38 and Mahendra Persaud, 23.

Bowling for the Vikings, Blair Haynes and Ravi Persaud each took three wickets while Mohamed Hassan took two wickets. The Vikings closed day one on 16/3 after 10 overs.
