Williams is replacing Richard Allen, who resigned on Tuesday, days after he collapsed in the National Assembly.

Allen, who was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an ambulance, remains hospitalised. His high blood pressure is being monitored and he has also been complaining about head pains.

With the combined opposition only having a one-seat majority in the National Assembly, it was expected that the opposition would need to have Allen replaced in order for it to be able to vote against budget allocations as it says it will during the consideration of the estimates.
