Contractor denies assault on mother of children

A contractor was on Tuesday charged with assaulting the mother of his children and another woman.

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on January 12, at Georgetown, Troy Bruce, 40, unlawfully assaulted Abena Scott, with whom he has children, so as to cause her actual bodily harm. On the same day, he also allegedly assaulted Alita Denny so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

Bruce, who resides at the Friendship Squatting Area, pleaded not guilty to the charges and he was granted his release on $80,000 bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman on one of the charges, after the other was dropped.

When given a chance to speak, Scott told the court that she no longer wanted to proceed with the matter against Bruce, after which it was dismissed. Denny did not appear in court and the magistrate ordered that she be summoned.

The prosecution had no objection to Bruce being granted bail in Denny’s matter. Bruce was ordered to appear in court on February 22.
