Boy, 16, remanded over knife-point robbery of students

A teen boy was remanded yesterday when he faced charges of armed robbery at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
The 16-year-old boy, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

He was not required to plead to the two indictable armed robbery charges read against him.

The court heard that on January 14, at Anna Catherina, the teen reportedly committed separate robberies at knife-point on two students: Roshnie Mahadeo and Dhanraj Dasrat.

He allegedly robbed Mahadeo of cell phone worth $14,000 and $500 cash and robbed Dasrat of a cellular phone valued $25,000.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Gordon Mansfield objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant is a regular offender and a series of rape matters are currently being investigated against him.

The prosecutor said too that the teen also has other rape matters pending in court and that he has been committed to stand trial at the high court on a buggery charge.
