Pedestrian dies in No. 1 Road, Corentyne accident

Police yesterday said that investigations are being conducted into a fatal accident that occurred at about 9 pm on Saturday at No.1 Road, Corentyne, and which resulted in the death of a so far unidentified pedestrian.

Initial investigations, police say, have revealed that the driver of motor car PMM 9379 was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that the pedestrian attempted to cross the road and was struck down.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The driver is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

The victim is of East Indian descent, appears to be in his mid-sixties, medium build, brown complexion, and was clad in a blue jersey, dark blue jeans, and a pair of black slippers, police said.

The body is at the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary, police say.
