Man accused of assaulting partner over phone call

A man who allegedly used threatening language and assaulted his reputed wife during a row over a phone call was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $40,000. His wife was also charged with assaulting a woman, when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on January 18, at West Ruimveldt, Kerry Maxwell unlawfully assaulted Tenecia Hunte so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

On the same day, it is also alleged, he made use of threatening language to her.

Maxwell, 22, pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.

Maxwell’s attorney told the court that his client and Hunte are involved in a relationship. He said that on the day in question an argument broke out over a phone call his client received. The lawyer said the young lady got angry over the phone call because she assumed it was the man’s ex-girlfriend who had called.
