Judge overrules no-case submission in White Water murder trial

Justice Dawn Gregory has overruled the no-case submission that was made by the defence in the Mark Thompson murder trial.

Justice Gregory overruled the submission that was made by defence counsel Peter Hugh in the High Court yesterday. State prosecutors Renita Singh and Diana Kaulesar subsequently closed their case and made their closing arguments to the jury as did Hugh.

Justice Gregory will sum up the evidence in the case on Thursday before handing it to the jury for deliberation and a verdict.

Thompson is on trial for murdering his cousin, Romel Williams, in 2008 at White Water Village, North West District. He had also given a statement to the police in which he confessed to stabbing Williams. This statement was admitted as evidence in the trial.
