Mason, 17, gets $60,000 bail on break and enter, larceny charge

A mason was yesterday granted $60,000 bail after he denied breaking into a Mon Repos home and stealing over $80,000 in items, when he appeared in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on February 23, Brian Barker, 17, of 128 Mon Repos, broke and entered the dwelling house of Gwen Bisnauth and stole therein one laptop and a pair of gold earrings valued $85,000, the property of the said Bisnauth.

Barker was not required to plead to the indictable charge read to him by Magistrate Alex Moore.

No details of what transpired on the date in question were provided to the court.

While the prosecution did not object to bail, it requested that the accused report to the Beterverwagting Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Barker was granted his pre-trial liberty and will make his next court appearance on March 14 for report and fixtures.
