Supervisor charged with stealing $3.7M from Dalip Trading

Magistrate Leslie Sobers on Monday granted a supervisor $900,000 bail after he denied stealing $3.7M worth of steel rods and steel plates from his employer.

It is alleged that on February 22, in Eccles, Rajindra Jodan, 36, of Lot 342 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, stole 13 16×14 ft x ¼ inch thick steel plates valued $1,750,000, the  property of Mohash Dalip. It is also alleged that on the same date, Jodan stole 15 bundles of steel rods valued $1,950,000, the property of Dalip.

The Administration of Justice Act was applied and the charge was re-read to Jodan at the Providence Magistrates’ Court. The man pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that the defendant has been an employee of Dalip Trading for the last 10 years.

On the day in question, he allegedly instructed a forklift operator to load the said amount of goods onto a lorry.

Daniels said that the operator reported the matter to the Cove and John Police Station and the accused was arrested and charged.

The prosecution had no objections to bail.

Bail was initially set in the sum of $1M but a request was made for a reduction.

Jodan was ordered to return to court on March 4 for statements.
