Nine months jail for man who assaulted wife with rum bottle

On March 7, at River View Ruimveldt, Nazir Rahim unlawfully assaulted Rowtie Boodhoo so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court that Boodhoo and the defendant live together at 14 River View Ruimveldt. He said that on the day in question, at around 9:45pm, Rahim and Boodhoo were at home when Boodhoo went to a nearby shop and bought four banks beers and returned home with them.

Blackman further stated that Rahim gave Boodhoo a beer to drink but she refused to drink it. He said that Rahim became angry and dealt Boodhoo a lash to her head with a rum bottle causing the bottle to break and Boodhoo to sustain injuries to her head. The matter was reported to the Ruimveldt Police Station and the accused was arrested.

Boodhoo’s medical showed that she received multiple lacerations.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced him to nine months imprisonment.
