Minibus conductor charged over assault of police officer

A minibus conductor was yesterday released on $80,000 bail, when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on assault and other charges.

It is alleged that on March 12, Shawn Jones, 19 of 42 Second Street, Alberttown unlawfully assaulted Michael Rambarran, a police officer.

It was also alleged that on the said day at Cornhill Street, which is a public place, he behaved disorderly.

It was further alleged that on the same day at the said location he resisted arrest when Michael Rambarran, a police officer acting in execution of his duty, tried to arrest him.

Jones, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.

Police Prosecutor Jomo Nichols had no objection to Jones being granted bail.

The magistrate then informed him that he was admitted to bail in the sum of $40,000 on the assault charge, $15,000 on disorderly behaviour and $25,000 on resisting arrest.

His matter will be called again on March 20.
