Skeletal remains found at Unity

Skeletal remains were yesterday morning found in the vicinity of the old train line at Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara and residents are making checks to see if anyone from the village is missing.

Police said in a press release yesterday that around 0800 hours the skeletal remains of “a human being” were found in an area with thick vegetation.

The remains were later transported to the Lyken Funeral Home.

Sources told this newspaper that it was persons clearing the area probably to plant “suckers” who stumbled upon the remains. The area where the remains were found is usually deserted and is surrounded by many coconut trees and suckers.

Stabroek News was told that  hair was visible on the skull and there was a piece of black-coloured clothing on the remains.

DNA tests will be required to identify the body and that will have to be done overseas.
