National Parks Commission to charge Easter Monday fees

On Easter Monday, a nominal fee will be charged by the National Parks Commission for vendors; and for patrons wishing to take their vehicles (buses, cars, motor-cycles) into the Botanic Gardens and into the northern side of Joe Vieira Park (unfenced).  Similarly, fees will be charged at the National Park by the duly authorized franchisee.

The National Parks Commission said in a press release that monies collected will be used to offset expenses incurred in cleaning the Gardens and Parks of the usually heavy garbage and debris left in the aftermath of kite-flying and picnicking activities associated with Easter Monday.

However, the release did not indicate what would be the “nominal fees.”

Garbage bags will be distributed free of cost to groups entering these areas, and they will be collected periodically during the day to ease the clean-up exercise.

The release said that entrance to the National Park will be at the Carifesta Avenue Gate and the exit will be the Albert Street Gate.

The entrance to the Botanic Gardens will be the western main gate on Vlissengen Road.  The exit will be the eastern gate on Sheriff Street.

Admission to the southern side of the Joe Vieira Park will be free between 06:00 hrs and 18:00 hrs.  However, vending of beverages will be strictly prohibited except by the duly authorized franchisee.
