Agricola man charged over armed robberies

Agricola resident Romel Bollers was yesterday accused of committing two robberies at gun-point.

Bollers 21, of 120 Brutus Street, Agricola denied the armed robbery charges when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and he was granted a bail release in the sum of $300,000.

It is alleged that on March 31, at Georgetown, Bollers robbed Natasha Hayman at gun-point of a BlackBerry smartphone,a pair of jeans, a ladies top, a pair of shoes, an artificial band, a quantity of snacks and other items, all valued in total at $57,000.

It was also alleged that on the same, at Georgetown, Bollers used a gun to rob Ron Peters of a BlackBerry cell phone, valued at $30,000.
Prosecutor Sergeant Alexis David-Hosannah told the court that Hayman gave a statement to the police identifying the defendant as the perpetrator of the robbery.

But Bollers, when given a chance to address the court, said that he was at the seawalls at the time of the robberies. He admitted that he knew Peters and said sometime after the incident he received a call from Peters’ boss, whom he also knows, and the man told him that the attack sounded like something he [Bollers] would have done.

Nevertheless, Bollers said that he knew nothing about the incident and that he willingly turned himself over to the police in order to clear his name.
Bollers was granted $150,000 bail on each charge and was told that the cases would be called again on May 13.
