Miner murdered at Imbaimadai

Police say that at about 0730h yesterday, the body of miner Robert Hunter, 48 years, of Paratown Settlement, Im

baimadai, (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) was found along a trail at Imbaimadai with suspected stab wounds to the neck and chest.

Investigations so far have revealed that Hunter had earlier been involved in an argument over alcohol with a man at a nightspot while they were imbibing.

Hunter is the third miner to be murdered in recent days. On Saturday, police said that they were probing two murders.
At about 0700h on Saturday, acting on information received, police ranks from the Yarakita Police Station went to `Bruck Up’ Landing, NWD, where the body of miner Randy Rafael, 23 years, of Kamwatta Village, NWD, was found lying in a hammock with a suspected gunshot wound to the head. The suspect has  not yet been arrested, police say.

A statement from the police said that while at `Bruck Up’ Landing, the ranks received further information about another body o

f a Guyanese national of Amerindian descent that had been brought over earlier in the day from the border village of “Mundo” in Venezuela.

Police say that investigations revealed that miner Titus Daniels of Yarakita was allegedly fatally stabbed to his back by another Guyanese miner during an altercation at “Mundo”. Other Guyanese miners arrested the suspect and brought back the body of Daniels to Guyana. The suspect was handed over to the police and is in custody.
