Two held after businessman robbed at Palmyra

Police say that two suspects were held yesterday after bandits attacked a Palmyra, East Canje businessman on Saturday.

The police in a release yesterday said that at about 2300h on Saturday, four men, two of whom were armed with shotguns, attacked businessman Muniram Harricharran, 55 years, as he was in the process of closing his business place. The police say that the men took away $35,000, $60US and $25Cdn, his national identification card and a bag with other documents and escaped.

At about 0200h yesterday, police say that ranks of a mobile police patrol saw two men riding bicycles along the roadway at No. 2 Village, Canje, and stopped and searched them. Harricharran’s national identification card and other documents in his name were found in their possession.

The two men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
